Joshua Ira Epstein, 74, of Cedar Grove, N.J., passed away on July 25, 2022.
A memorial visitation will be held on September 10th from 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. at Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove. Memories and condolences may be shared at shookscedargrove.com.
Born in Rockville Centre, New York to the late Harry and Bertha Epstein, Joshua was raised in Freeport, NY before finally settling in Cedar Grove where he resided for the last 39 years. Prior to retiring, he was a sales executive at RIS Paper Company located in New York, NY. He was proud to say he never made a cold call in his life and all of his clients were considered friends.
Josh loved vacationing at his home on Friends Lake in Chestertown, NY where he shared decades of memories with his family and dear friends. He was a lover of the outdoors with a fondness for fishing. From ice fishing, to angling, to fly fishing he was a master of his craft eventually teaching his grandsons all of his secrets.
He was an avid sports memorabilia collector and a true New York Mets fan. Watching the Mets with a grandson on each knee pointing out which players were on his 'bum list' was a favorite pastime. 'Grandpa Josh' was also his grandsons' biggest fan. He enjoyed taking in their baseball games from his favorite spot just outside the outfield fence. Josh could often be found walking the track or on local trails making small talk with anyone that complimented his dogs.
Predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Moore), Josh was a devoted and loving husband for 39 years. After Margie was diagnosed with MS in the early 1980s, the strength of their love shone through and formed an unbreakable bond, he as her caregiver and she as his rock. Although the disease prevented Margie from physically moving, they were always in motion, attending sporting events, plays, movies, and concerts. They lived life to the fullest, never letting Margie's disease slow them down.
Josh is survived by his beloved son, Michael Epstein, and his wife, Megan (Nattini); loving grandsons, Nolan, Jack, and Henry; cherished brother, Joseph Epstein, and his wife, Lynne; brother-in-law Robert Moore and his wife, Eileen; sister-in-law Kathy Swartz (Moore); and sister-in-law Elaine Moore; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, PO Box 91891, Washington, D.C. 20090, or online at nationalmssociety.org in memory of Margaret Epstein.

The sweetest guy and so damn funny. I met Josh when we were both walking our dogs. He was wearing a vintage Cubs hat -- my team -- so we started talking about baseball and dogs. And then, over the years, kids, wives, work, politics, baseball cards, dating (not so interested), fishing, sledriding. I think we eventually covered it all. So lucky for me and my family that I crossed his path.
Here's hoping there's a frozen pond, Mets games and Margie in the sweet hereafter.

A gentle man who loved his family, his friends, his dogs and his fishing. A wise man indeed. Josh you will be missed. Go swiftly to your wife Marge. See you some day at the great big lake in the sky. Xo
