Joshua Scott Gwin, age 42, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, at his home in Joplin, Missouri. Joshua was born May 12, 1983, in Springfield, Missouri.
Joshua was a 2001 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, in
Mt. Vernon, Missouri. Over the years he worked as a phlebotomist at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, worked at Channel 10 news, he was also a lifeguard. Growing up, he was an accomplished swimmer and was named Rookie of the Year on his swim team. He also learned karate as a young boy and achieved his brown belt, which is the highest rank before black belt. He enjoyed drama and acted in several plays, he was artistic, and he loved to write. Josh loved to sing and enjoy family get together's. His family is very musical and he was always right in the middle of it. He would sing gospel songs with his mother, as well as singing with the whole family. Joshua is known for having one of the biggest hearts a person could have. If you knew him, you couldn't help but love him. Joshua loved his family and deeply loved his mother, Tara. Joshua loved his pets, and his dog Ginger was by his side at his passing. Joshua loved Jesus and had accepted him as Lord and Savior when he was young. Joshua had struggles in his life, but he loved Jesus Christ, and he would tell you so...he knew he was forgiven. We rest assured he is at home and at peace with his Lord.
In 2022 Joshua married his partner Jerry Topper in Joplin Missouri. He preceded him in death on July 2, 2025.
Joshua is survived by his parents, Rob and Tara Bowman; one brother and sister-in-law William and Grace Bowman; two nephews, Jeffrey Bowman and Zepplin Bowman; one niece, Zaylee Bowman; grandparents, Nancy Moore and Robert Bowman; aunts and uncles, Clark and Amber Bogle, Jamie and Tanya LaSalle and Jeff and Renee Bowman; cousins, Derrick and Audrey Estell, Jacob and Laura LaSalle, Evan and Tori Dotson, Alivia Bogle, Charlotte Bogle, Zack and Jessie King. The Gwin family. There is no disrespect intended, and we know Joshua had more extended family, but at the time this was written we did not have the information. Joshua also had many friends that loved him as well. We know for certain that Josh loved every single one of you.
Joshua was preceded in death by his partner, Jerry Topper; great-grandparents, Vernon, and Anna Jane Watson; grandmother, Janice Bowman and grandfather, Ray Hill.

A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at the Moore Cemetery, west of Stotts City, Missouri.
