Joshua Allen Harmon

Joshua Allen Harmon went back home to be with his Savior on Monday, July 8, 2024. While the end of his life came unexpectedly, we know that his arrival in heaven was not unexpected.
Josh was born in Provo, Utah, on November 17, 1977, to Kent and Suzanne Harmon. Josh was their first son and would eventually be joined by four younger brothers.
Life growing up in a houseful of boys was crazy and wonderful and fun. As the big brother, Josh was ringleader and often the one to come up with the mischief and shenanigans the boys got themselves into. Kent and Suzanne rarely (if ever) came home but to find the babysitter tied up and the boys doing pretty much whatever they wanted. That is, until a new babysitter, Susie, was hired. Having five older brothers herself, Susie whipped the Harmon boys into shape before they even knew what hit them.
As a kid Josh played football and liked to draw, to hunt and to fish. Every year he and his brothers, Dad and Uncle Davie from Iowa would go on a hunting trip. Those were special times for Josh.
Josh graduated in 1996 from Rangely High School in Rangely, Colorado (where his family had moved in 1994). After high school, Josh moved back to Utah where he attended Community College in Provo.
Josh met and married Pam Howard in Provo and they were thrilled to welcome son Toby Allen and daughter Sadie Joelyinn in 2000 and 2004 respectively.
Josh owned and ran Blue Rock Construction. He and his crews were men of all trades, able to handle both new construction and even the most tricky of remodeling projects. Josh loved this time in his career.
After about eight years of marriage, things at home were not going well and after a tough, hard divorce Josh was ready for a change of scenery and moved to Pocatello, Idaho, to stay with his brother Matt and get a fresh start.
Josh went to work for MasterCraft doing fire and flood home restoration. Two years went by and he met Lori Hill. He'd tell you they met at their singles ward game nights. Lori remembers their first meeting at a church activity. Just two weeks later they started dating and a year later they were engaged. Lori thought he was handsome and Josh loved Lori's smile and her dimples.
Josh and Lori were married on July 17, 2009 in Chubbock, Idaho and sealed in the Boise Idaho temple on July 16, 2016. They lived in Grace, Idaho, for two years where they were joined by a beautiful baby girl, Annabelle Jo, on September 11, 2010. The family would spend a year-long stint in Soda Springs, Idaho, before moving to Rexburg, Idaho in 2011.
In Rexburg Josh worked helping his Dad build his cabin in Lowman. After another year the family moved to Pocatello. Josh worked for his brother, Matt, doing landscaping. On March 19, 2014, Samuel Koda Harmon was born and the family was complete.
In December of that year Josh spent a month in the hospital (including days in the ICU) with sever Pancreatitis. The prognosis at the time was not good and doctors weren't sure that Josh would survive. His desire to live was stronger than the illness and after a long recovery, Josh was well again. Pancreatitis left Josh with Type 1 Diabetes. He learned to manage his blood sugar and eventually did thrive again.
In 2015 Josh, Lori and the kids moved to Mt. Home, Idaho, where Josh became a stay-at-home dad. Lori commuted to Nampa to work as a nurse at Karcher Estates. This lasted a year before the family found affordable housing in Caldwell and Lori's commute became a lot shorter. Another year went by and Josh and Lori bought their first and forever home in Caldwell. It was so good to settle in.
Josh's years as an at-home dad were mostly treasured and sometimes tolerated. Two severe car wrecks – one in 2018 and one in 2022 – damaged his body in ways he didn't fully recover from. He would have liked to have been able to work more.
Toward the end of his life Josh continued to fight a battle, both externally and internally, in which he eventually couldn't continue to fight. Those closest to him were an invaluable resource during this time.
Throughout his whole life, Josh served those around him. He was quick to volunteer to meet a need. Just two days before his death, Josh helped a family in his ward with their move. This was Josh at his best. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Josh knew that serving his neighbors was a way to serve the Lord.
Josh will be terribly missed by his friends and family and all who knew him.
Josh is survived by his older children, Toby (Hannah) and Sadie; his wife, Lori, and their children, Annabelle and Koda. His parents, Kent (Annmarie) Harmon and Suzanne Harmon; brothers Jacob (Caitlyn), Jeremiah, Matthew (Jennifer) and Nathan (Jacci); bonus sisters and brother Brittany (Kevin), Christine (Darryl) and David (Amy). Fifteen nieces and nephews; Uncles Russell Harmon and Davie (MaryJo) Harmon; Aunts Sherry Harmon and Karen (Paul) Gallacci.
Those who predeceased Josh include his grandparents, Wade and Ruth Harmon and Jerry and Maggie Lenz.
A viewing will take place on Friday evening, June 12th, from 5-8pm, at Flahiff Funeral Chapel (624 Cleveland Blvd) in Caldwell, with funeral services at 9am on Saturday the 13th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (4509 South Montana Ave.), also in Caldwell.
Josh will be laid to rest in Wilder, Idaho.
