Josh McKinney passed away December 9, 2025 at the age of 33 unexpectedly in a tragic accident.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, J.T. McKinney and Sue G. McKinney Fraley; maternal grandparents, Thomas William and Sandra Alice Muckenfuss.
He is survived by his parents, Mitch and Denise McKinney; brother, Jared William McKinney (Cathryn); nephews, Jaxson William McKinney and Caden Wyatt McKinney and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A proud 2010 graduate of Dallas County High School, Joshua was a simple man who cherished the little things in life. He was known for his gentle spirit and his unwavering love for his family, always putting them first and delighting in their happiness. His life was filled with the simple pleasures that he valued deeply—time spent in the great outdoors, surrounded by nature, family, and friends.
Joshua had a passion for camping, hunting, and fishing, and loved nothing more than sitting around a fire, sharing stories and laughter under the vast sky. These moments embodied his love for life and the connections he built with those around him. His enthusiasm for the outdoors was apparent, and the beauty of nature brought him immense joy.
In addition to his love of family and nature, Joshua was a lifelong fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide. This passion served as a testament to his spirited nature, and it was something he often shared with friends and family alike, uniting them in celebration and camaraderie. As we gather to honor and remember him, the family respectfully requests that attendees wear casual Alabama Crimson Tide apparel, reflecting his fervor for the team and creating a shared sense of closeness in his memory.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Beard officiating. Visitation will begin at the funeral home at 12:30 p.m., prior to the service.
