Joy Engle

Joy Engle age 76 of Sturgis, Kentucky got her wings and went to walk with the angels on Oct 20,2024. She dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home for her husband Bill of 59 years. She devoted her life to her children Stacy, Billy, and Shelly. There was no denying that her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her absolute favorite people. She would glow when speaking of them. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and fostering a loving environment. Her kitchen was the gathering place for Sunday dinners, holiday celebrations, and impromptu family meetings. She was delighted in teaching the secret recipe to each new generation.
Joy had a knack for remembering every birthday, anniversary, and important date in her children's and grandchildren's lives, never failing to send a card or make a call. Her homemade chocolate suckers were legendary in the neighborhood, and her Thanksgiving dinner was eagerly anticipated by her family.
She enjoyed being at the ballparks being the loudest cheerleader, being the biggest supporter, and being the greatest ally. Every encounter she had was met with a smile that exemplified her namesake Joy. Many knew her as "Dud". And for so long that was a mystery as to why. Dad always said "she once was a firecracker now she's a dud" in true Bill Engle style.
She never wanted to be the center of attention,
And had an extraordinary gift for nurturing deep, lasting relationships with those around her. Joys listening ear and sage advice made her a confidante to many, and that's why She was so loved in her small town.
She was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by her. We ask that you remember her not for the way her life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Funeral will be 7PM on Wednesday October 23, 2024 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis, KY. Rev. Jerry Chesser will officiate.
