Joy Flohr Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Maple Crest Funeral Home Inc on Dec. 9, 2025.
Joy Shirley (Riesenberg) Flohr, 68, of New London, WI passed away Saturday, December 6, 2025 after a year-long battle with glioblastoma. The courage, strength and resiliency she showed daily fighting the disease was inspiring to those around her. Despite many obstacles, she never gave up!

She was born in Clintonville to Herman and Iva Riesenberg. Joy married the love of her life, Ron Flohr, in June 1985, and they had two children, Sarah and Greg.

Joy devoted her life to her church, family and friends. She was a faithful and active member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 40 years, working behind the scenes in many church programs. She retired in 2023 after working over 44 years at ThedaCare Medical Center-New London. Joy enjoyed doing a variety of crafts, including making cards and crocheting towels. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting. Her latest adventure was creating projects with her embroidery machine. Many friends and relatives have been gifted with Joy's handiwork. When not crafting or sewing, she could be found reading, gardening, playing cards with friends, fishing, or traveling with her family. Joy enjoyed taking road trips throughout the United States and visiting National Parks. The trips took her through 40 states and 26 National Parks.

Joy will be missed by many, including her husband of over 40 years, Ron Flohr, and their children, Sarah Flohr and Greg (Leah) Flohr. She also leaves behind three siblings, John (Mary) Riesenberg, Joel (Yvonne) Riesenberg and Jill (Bryan) Willner, along with nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The visitation and funeral service for Joy will be held Friday December 12, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 709 W. Beckert Road, New London, WI. Visitation will start at 8:30 AM, followed by the service at 11:30 AM, with Reverend Doctor Charles Thompson presiding. A private family burial service will be held at a later date.

The family appreciates the loving care and support provided by the staff at St. Joseph's Residence in New London. The family would also like to thank Dr. Joe Bovi from the ThedaCare Regional Cancer Center and Jocelyn Grendahl, RN from the UW Health Department of Neurological Surgery for their guidance and support.
