Mrs. Joy Rogers Garner, age 88, beloved wife of the late William Clayton Garner passed away on Saturday morning, December 20, 2025 at Dublin Square Health and Rehabilitation Center in Dublin.
Born in Soperton, she was the eldest of six children born to the late Curtis Judson Rogers and Mary Lucile Page Rogers. At an early age she became affectionately known as "Skeeter", a name of affection that remained with her throughout her lifetime. In 1958 she married William Clayton Garner of Soperton. The newlyweds traveled fairly extensively throughout the State of Georgia with her husband's quest for higher education and his career with her USDA Soil and Conservation Service. No matter where they might be assigned, Treutlen County was always home and where they always returned to.
Joy attended Georgia Southwestern University in Americus and Georgia Southern University in Statesboro and West Georgia College in Carrollton, where she earned her Bachelors, Masters and Specialists Degrees in Early Childhood Education and Media Specialist. She taught in the Treutlen County School System for many years before retiring from Treutlen County High School.
She had been lifelong member of the Orianna Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Clayton Garner, a son, William Todd Garner, siblings, Curtis "Buddy" Rogers, Johnnie Bryan, Peggy Barrick, and Sylvia Norris.

Soperton, GA, her only living sibling, Sara Cauley (Wayne),
Soperton, GA, brother-in-laws, Kenny Barrick, Kenny Bryan, sister in laws, Jeannie Rogers and Brenda Colston; she also leaves behind nine grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 in the Billy Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Mertz, Pastor Arthur Conley and Sheriff Tommy Corbin officiating.
Mrs. Garner will be laid to rest beside her husband of fifty-six years, William Clayton Garner, in the Orianna Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Caleb Garner, Todd Sheridan, Will Garner, Mercer Garner, Ronald Barrick, Barry Norris, Carey Cauley, Jason Brooks, Luke Brooks and Jody Rogers.
Her family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 p. m. at Sammons Funeral Home or friends and family may call at the home of her son and daughter in law, Al and Jackie Garner.
