Joy Sandell Rogerson, 94, formerly of North
Aurora, IL died peacefully on Friday, May 17, 2024
at Barrington Hospice Center. She was born July 9, 1929 in
Aurora, IL to the late Fred and
Esther Sandell.
Joy was united in marriage to Robert Jeffery Rogerson on September 23, 1950. They happily
spent the next 58 years together. In 2009, her beloved "Jeff "passed away after prolonged health
problems.
Joy graduated with honors from West Aurora High School in 1947, and was employed for the
next seven years as a stenographer at the Mooseheart Child City and School. Years later in 1965,
Joy enjoyed working as an administrative assistant at The Messenger Public Library of North
Aurora. In 1998, after 33 years of commitment and loyal service, Joy entered retirement.
Joy was an active member at Westminster Presbyterian Church in
Aurora, IL serving others in
many ways. Joy participated in the "Willing Workers" group which sewed baby burp cloths and
receiving blankets for the Crisis Pregnancy Center. Individually, Joy sewed more than a thousand
pieces.
During her lifetime, Joy enjoyed sewing, quilting, needle work, gardening, reading and
researching genealogy about her family history. In her retirement years, Joy mastered the art of
baking the most delicious breads and cookies. She was always busy making and sharing these
treats with friends and family for various occasions. Most of all, Joy cherished time spent with
her family.
Joy is survived by a loving family; a son, John (Mary) Rogerson and a daughter, Julie (James E.)
Sippel; her grandchildren; Jessica (Daniel) Alltop, Katie (Eric) Claypool, James M. (Rebecca)
Sippel and Daniel Barney; her great grandchildren Kaylie, Landon and Jase Alltop, Gary and
Hank Claypool, Owen Sippel, Evelyn and Willow Barney.
Joy enjoyed a special relationship with her loving sisters, June Gamage and Janet Trapp; as well
as a close relationship to many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 10 am – 12 pm on Friday, June 21, 2024 at The Healy Chapel, 370 Division
Drive,
Sugar Grove, IL. A celebration of Joy's life will follow at 12 pm with the Rev. Betty
Weidert officiating.
A private interment service will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park,
Aurora, IL.
