Joy Skofronick, age 96, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025, in
Hartford, Wisconsin.
She was born on October 6, 1929, in Milwaukee, WI, to William H. and Ruth C. Halliburton (née Voight). Joy grew up in her family home off Roosevelt Drive in Milwaukee, where she shared her childhood with five brothers and cherished time with her beloved grandmother, Mamie.
As a young girl, Joy developed her lifelong love of style - the latest fashion, perfectly coiffed hairstyles, and the joy of spending time with her many girlfriends. As a teenager, she worked in her maternal grandparents' grocery store, located just off Wisconsin Avenue where part of Marquette University now stands. It was there she learned the value of hard work, family, and community.
As a young woman, she attended the Baptist Tabernacle in Milwaukee, where Pastor Zimmer was the senior pastor at the time. At the age of 20, Joy accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior, a decision that shaped her heart and values throughout her life. Later, she was baptized alongside her brother Dale in that same church - a cherished spiritual milestone. Further in life, for several years, she volunteered and taught Sunday school to the mentally disabled at Lake Dr. Baptist Church, a role she embraced with compassion and patience.
Joy married Duane "Bud" Skofronick, and together they enjoyed a beautiful home and life that spanned decades. As a wife and mother, Joy poured her heart into making every house a warm, welcoming home. She had a natural talent for decorating and took great pride in hosting dinners and gatherings for family and friends.
She loved the peaceful countryside, spending 16 happy years in Hubertus, WI, before moving to Germantown, where she lived until the age of 93. She and Bud later made their home at The Gardens of Hartford Assisted Living, where she spent her final years surrounded by care and comfort.
Throughout her life, Joy was a member of the Eastern Star, and she enjoyed the activities and camaraderie of the Highlanders, where Bud was an active member. She cherished traditions, family celebrations, and the simple joys of everyday life.
Joy had a particular fondness for the elegant fragrance of gardenias, her favorite flower, and the cheerful brightness of yellow, her favorite color - both reflections of her warm, graceful spirit.
Joy leaves behind her devoted husband, Duane Skofronick; her daughters Candace (Bruce) and Valerie (Jeff); grandchildren Adrienne (Marcus), Alexandra (Michael), Brittany (Dennis), Shannon (Brock), Luke, and Matthew; and 14 great-grandchildren who lovingly knew her as a guiding and gentle presence in their lives.
She is preceded in death by her beloved brothers: Dale (Joan), Roger (Judy), Leon (Janet), Bill Jr. (Doris), Richard (Delores), and Jerry (Joyce); and is survived by her living brother Mark (Dawn), along with many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
Joy will be remembered for her grace, her style, her warmth, her faith, and the love she poured into her family. Her legacy lives on in the many hearts she touched
