Joy Brockwell Weidman, born August 26, 1957, passed away on November 11, 2025, at 68 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Nancy Brockwell, as well as her two brothers, Miles and L.D. Brockwell.
Joy is survived by her husband of 45 years, John Weidman, with whom she shared a loving life in Adsit, Virginia. She is also survived by her two sons, Andrew “Bubba” Weidman and his wife Brittney, and James “Jimmy” Weidman and his wife Allison. Her four cherished grandchildren, Harper, Easton, Saylor, and a grandchild on the way in May 2026, were the delight of her life. She is also remembered by numerous cousins and other extended family members who loved her dearly.
Joy worked at Vaughan’s Store in Dolphin, Virginia, before beginning a long and dedicated career serving the community of Brunswick County through the Department of Social Services. During her 38 years of service, she was known for her kindness, compassion, and commitment to helping others. Her gentle strength and steady care touched many lives.
Visitation will be held at Williams Funeral Home and Crematory in Lawrenceville, Virginia, on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will take place at the Home Place 88 Adsit Lane, in Freeman, Virginia, on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
Joy will be deeply missed and always remembered for the love she gave, the laughter she shared, and the grace with which she lived.
