Joyce Allred Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Young's Funeral Home - Vidalia on Mar. 16, 2026.
Visitation for Joyce Marie Allred, age 92, of Vidalia, Louisiana, will be held from 12:00-1:00 at Vidalia Methodist Church, formerly known as Vidalia Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Graveside services will follow at Natchez City Cemetery at 1:30 PM with Bro. Trey Caldwell officiating, under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.

Joyce was born on September 12, 1933, in Oak Grove, Louisiana, and passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2026, in Natchez, Mississippi. In 1958, Joyce and her family moved to Vidalia, Louisiana and made their home there.

Joyce lived a life defined by love, generosity, and a heart that was always open to others. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose greatest joy came from caring for the people around her. Her grandchildren were a source of joy in her life, and she showered them with love, patience, and encouragement throughout their lives. She cherished every moment spent with them. She lovingly taught them confidence in sports, creativity in crafting, and joy in cooking, always encouraging them to explore their talents and passions.

For 47 years, Joyce and her beloved husband opened their home to foster children, welcoming each child with warmth, patience, and unconditional love. She never saw them as temporary guests but as children who deserved to feel safe, cherished, and part of a family. Her nurturing spirit touched countless lives and created a legacy of compassion that will live on for generations.

She was a proud supporter of homemakers through the Louisiana Homemakers Association, believing deeply in strengthening families and communities through kindness, service, and hard work. She was also very involved with the local 4H.

Joyce also found great joy in quilting and sewing. Many in the community were blessed to receive quilts lovingly stitched by her hands, each one made with care and given from the heart. Her exceptional talent for sewing earned her numerous awards, and she even designed and created several custom wedding dresses, each one crafted with pride and attention to detail.

Above all else, Joyce loved doing for others. She had a special gift for making people feel cared for, whether through a helping hand, a warm meal, a kind word, or simply her comforting presence. She loved all children deeply, whether they were her own or not, and truly embodied the gentle grace, strength, and warmth of a devoted mama and a true Southern lady.

Joyce will be remembered for her generous spirit, her loving heart, and the countless lives she touched through her kindness. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is reunited in heaven with her mother, Lois Myles; her husband of 65 wonderful years, James Rayford Allred; her infant son, Rayford Dale Allred; and her sons, Richard Dean Allred and Danny Gregory Allred.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Wanda Frye and her husband Robert of Vidalia, Louisiana; her grandson, Brian Chandler and his wife Reve' of Vidalia, Louisiana and their sons, Drew and Scott Thompson; her granddaughter, Sara Wells and her husband Shane of Amory, Mississippi and their sons, Brett and Case Wells; and her granddaughter, Jessie Blackard of Sterlington, Louisiana and her children, Grant and June Blackard.

Those honoring Joyce as pallbearers are Brian Chandler, Shane Wells, Drew Thompson, Scott Thompson, Grant Blackard, Brett Wells, and Case Wells.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Pleasant Acre Day School in Natchez, Mississippi or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of Mrs. Joyce.

Though her hands are now at rest, the love she gave so freely and the lives she nurtured will continue to carry her legacy forward.
