Joyce Altman,
December 16, 2023, age 82, of Mequon. Dear wife of the late Alfred Altman. Adoring mother of Michael (Kari) Altman and Marjorie (Brian Link) Altman. Cherished grandmother of Jack, Justin, Lulu and Daisy Altman. Loving sister of Bonnie (James) Schwid and the late Joan (the late Marvin) Heifetz. Loving sister-in-law of the late Melvin (the late Barbara) Altman. Further survived by many cousins, nephews, nieces and many relatives and dear friends.
Joyce loved the adventure of life. Whether it was getting a pilot's license at age 16, jumping out of an airplane, traveling around the world or just enjoying time with her children and grandchildren, she always made the most out of her life. She was an accomplished musician from an early age, and earned bachelor's and master's degrees in piano performance. She could have been a concert pianist, but thought that would be too lonely. She played piano throughout her life, for hundreds of weddings, accompanying cantors and other singers and continued playing until the last days of her life.
She became an expert in nonprofit management, as Development Director of Childrens Service Society, Executive Director of United Cerebral Palsy, and then at her dream job, as President of the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. She excelled at joining charities in financial peril and turning them around to success. Joyce was extremely proud of leading the Conservatory's long overdue capital campaign to restore its 100-year-old home.
She also enjoyed leading other charities, including Mequon's Gathering on the Green and the Jewish Community Relations Council.
Most of all, she was a loving member of her family. She helped Al at his store and with his collections and loved to attend musical performances and sports competitions for her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all of us.
Memorial services 11 AM Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Congregation Shalom, 7630 N. Santa Monica Blvd., Fox Point. Memorials to the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, Congregation Shalom, or a charity of your choice.
