Joyce Ann Burleson Davis, age 88 died peacefully on October 8, 2023, at Carolina Caring Sherrill’s Ford Hospice House. Joyce was the eldest child of Chester and Pansy Burleson, and was predeceased by her husband, John, as well as her parents and two brothers.
Joyce is remembered for her gracious and giving heart, and for the many years of selfless caregiving she gave to her family and others. She loved deeply, carried family responsibility with grace, and regularly denied herself the simplest of pleasures so she could share freely with others of her time and resources.
It is her deep devotion to God and to her family that defines her life. Joyce accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior when she was a young girl, was baptized at First Baptist Church in Marion, North Carolina, and for the rest of her life, she worshipped in the Baptist tradition, giving faithfully and quietly of her gifts and talents. She touched many lives through her bible teaching, her prayers, and her leadership, always looking for how she could give more of herself to others.
Joyce spent most of her adult life working in retail environments where her sweet spirit and warm smile welcomed shoppers into Belk of Marion, Burand’s of Marion, John’s Food Land, and Eckerd Drug. She taught Sunday School for many years, spending hours in preparation and study before delivering each lesson. And always, where her beloved John went, Joyce was with him.
Surviving Joyce are her son, Harold Davis (Cynthia), her granddaughters Sarah Elizabeth Davis Maier (Travis), and Mary Katherine Davis Ogle (Trevor) and their children Torin Alexander and Adelaide Claire Ogle, and her sister, Martha Long.
The family is indebted to the compassionate and caring staffs of Kingston Residence and Carolina Caring who gave generously to Joyce and to her family in her last days. And the family is also grateful to the caring staff of Beam’s who through Joyce’s late husband’s work affiliation with Beam’s embraced her as one of their own.
A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at Beam’s Funeral Home and Crematory on October 11, 2023. The family will receive friends starting at 11:00 A.M. followed by a celebration of life service at noon. Joyce’s burial will be private.
