Joyce Elaine Baker

Joyce Elaine Baker, 72, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at home on the evening of Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

She was born on December 16, 1952, in Ironton, Ohio, a daughter of the late John Abbott Jr. and Helen (Gannon) Abbott Crichfield.

Joyce grew up with a bright spirit and vibrant energy, graduating from Triton Central High School in 1972, where she proudly served as a featured baton twirler in the school band.

On March 18, 1972, Joyce married the love of her life, Danny Baker. Together they shared 53 wonderful years marked by deep devotion, quiet joys, and a steadfast partnership that was admired by all who knew them.

Joyce had a naturally warm and cheerful personality. Even through her own health challenges, she remained upbeat, encouraging, and full of kindness. She found joy in creating a welcoming home-decorating with care, tending to her plants, and making her family feel loved. Her greatest joy in life was caring for their daughter, Jessie, whose presence brought purpose and immeasurable happiness to Joyce's days.

She and Danny were longtime members of Southport Church of the Nazarene, where Joyce's gentle faith and loving heart were evident to those around her. Each day, it brought Joyce much happiness to post a collage of encouraging scriptures, sayings, and photos on Facebook to encourage her friends.

Those left to cherish Joyce's memory include her husband, Danny D. Baker; her beloved daughter, Jessica Danielle Baker; her brother, John Randall "Randy" Abbott of Greenwood; and several nieces and nephews who adored her.

Joyce was preceded in death by her father, John Abbott Jr., and by her mother and stepfather, Helen and Forrest Crichfield.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Southport Church of the Nazarene, 920 E. Southport Road, Indianapolis, with Pastor Tim Lanigan officiating.

Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service, Sunday at the church.

A graveside service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Fairland Cemetery in Fairland, Indiana.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Sproles Family Funeral Home in New Castle.
