Joyce Marie Brown

Joyce Marie Whitaker was born on July 24, 1933. The daughter of the late Claude Whitaker and Mable Howard Whitaker of Michie, TN. She went to be with the Lord on August 14, 2025 at the age of 92 years and 21 days.
Joyce graduated from Michie School where she was a member of the 1950 Regional Championship basketball team. The school has since retired her school sweater in honor of her contributions. She loved her family and was always ready to go see grandchildren and great grandchildren participate in any sport activity. She was an avid Memphis Grizzles and Tennessee Volunteers fan. She will always be remembered by her family as a wonderful cook and by her famous pound cake and (sugar loaded) sweet tea.
Joyce married her high school sweetheart, Robert Earl Brown, on June 30, 1951 and was married for 70 years before he passed in December 2021. She was a homemaker as well as a business owner of the Selmer Decorative Center for many years. She leaves behind 5 children: Billy (Denise) Brown, Debra (Roy) Haggard, Belinda (Avon) Shelton, Brian (Laura) Brown, Tim (Tina) Brown. 11 grandchildren: Scott (Elana) Shelton, Ross (Courtney) Shelton, Will (Megan) Shelton, Eric (Addie) Brown, Erin (Nathaniel) Root, Steven (Mallory) Brown, Michael (Darcie) Brown, Chase (Nikki) Brown, Ashley (Max) Sanford, Christian Brown, Austin (Macie) Brown, 24 great grandchildren. She was blessed with many nieces, nephews, family members and friends that she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by three brothers and their spouses. J.C. (Lois) Whitaker, Charles (Geneva) Whitaker, and Lowell (Janet) Whitaker.
The family wishes to say a heartfelt thank you to her wonderful and faithful caretakers that have worked endlessly to help both Robert and Joyce during these last 11 years. Ethel Clark, Brenda Sebree, Jean Boyd, and Patricia Robinson. Special thanks to Legacy Hospice for their excellent care.
