Joyce Burleson, 92 of Waco, TX passed away on April 9, 2025, surrounded by loved ones as Jesus welcomed her home. She was a beloved wife, mother, Nana and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A celebration of life will be held at the United Methodist Church of Mart on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
Joyce LaVerne Doss was born on September 28,1932 to Jessie Vanice and Mildred Pearce Doss of Big Hill, Texas. She attended Big Hill Elementary School and later attended Groesbeck High School where she met Bill “PeeWee” Burleson. The two were married on December 20, 1947, and went on to have three children, Rhonda Jean, James Alton and Debra Kay.
While raising her children, Joyce enjoyed bowling in a league and took up golf in the 1970’s where she was a member of the Battle Lake Ladies Golf Association. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church. She worked as the Office Manager in Waco for Dr. Richard Kleiman for over 30 years before she retired. In her retirement she enjoyed reading, spending time with her family, and her cat CeeCee.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents: brother, Marion Doss; husband, Bill “PeeWee” Burleson: daughter, Rhonda Burleson Headen; son, James “Jim” Burleson; granddaughter, D’Ann Connally; and son in law, David Connally.
She is survived by daughter, Debbie Connally of Waco; son in law, Eddie Headen of Riesel; grandchildren, Scott and Alisha Headen of Groesbeck, TJ and Misti Johnston of Lorena, Doug Burleson of Whitney, Travis and Dara Burleson of Robinson, and Derek and Megan Connally of Magnolia; great grandchildren Zach Ty (Madeley), Jonathan, Colby and Payton Headen, Cody (Karisa) and Brant (Stevie) Johnston, Haden Johnson, Margaux and Eva Burleson, Wyatt Burleson, and Laney, Devyn and Champ Connally; as well as ten great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
