SALEM- Joyce A. (Richiuts) Carson, 82 of Salem MA passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026 at her home with her loving family by her side, after a yearlong battle with metastatic cancer.
Born in Salem MA, she was the daughter of the late Armand and Louise (Church) Richiuts. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School Class of 1961.
Joyce began her career with New England Telephone Company as a telephone operator. Upon moving to Maine, she joined Cyro Industries as their switchboard operator and later became the secretary for the engineering department where she remained for over 20 years until the time of her retirement, whereupon she moved back to Salem MA to care for her parents.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Joyce’s true calling was that of mother and grandmother, a job she considered to be the most important and most fulfilling. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and was truly happiest when surrounded by them celebrating their many milestones and accomplishments. Success to Joyce was preparing her special comfort recipes like lasagna, her spaghetti sauce, and galumpkis that would bring her whole family together around the table for conversations, laughs and love. Her family was truly the center of her world. A talented crafter, Joyce spent countless hours knitting and crocheting hats, mittens, scarves and blankets that she shared with family and friends. She also took great pride in creating outfits for her children when they were young. During her spare time, you could find Joyce reading a good book, “working” (playing games) on her iPad or completing a large jigsaw puzzle with family. Joyce never met a dog she didn’t love and was a staunch supporter of animal charities throughout her life. Joyce will forever be remembered for always putting her family first, and for her strength, kindness, generosity and contagious laugh. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving Joyce are her children, Suzanne Lambert Poisson and her husband Ricky of Greenfield Center, NY, Laurieanne Emery and Brett Emery of Salem MA, Cherylanne Forster and her husband Steve of Newfields, NH, and Michael Carson of Springvale, ME, her grandchildren Kyle Lambert and his wife Shannon, Adam Lambert and his wife Kelly, Tristan Huot and his partner Whitney, Brendan Huot and his partner Sara, Lauren Emery and her partner Michael, Cassie Emery and Paisley Carson, Alex Forster and his wife Rachel, Jack Forster and Nate Forster, her great-grandchildren, Silas, Jordyn, Norah, Ava, and Lyla, her sister Sandra Iwanicki, nieces Linda and Nancy, and her nephews.
