Joyce Hare Conrad peacefully went to be with the Lord on November 10th, 2025. The family will receive friends at Green Hills Funeral Home on Sunday, December 14, 2025, from 12:00 noon until 1:30pm followed by a private family memorial service.

Joyce was born in Tuskegee, Alabama to Judge William Crumpton Hare and Mary Esther Bentley Hare. Joyce attended Ward Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee and the University of Alabama where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was married to her college sweetheart, David Druid Conrad Sr (d. 2010) for 61 years and lived in their home until she passed.

She is survived by two sisters, Mary Esther "Bebe" Cofer (Felton) and Barbara H Young. She was the beloved mother of Joyce Conrad Montague (William Jr), David Druid Conrad Jr (Cheryl), William Hare Conrad (Betsy), grandmother of Amelia Conrad Montague, William Lynwood Montague III, David Druid Conrad III (Whitney), Liston Hutcheson Conrad (Adele), Sarah Conrad Isham (George II), William Hare Conrad Jr (Mary), and great grandmother of nine.

Upon receiving her undergraduate degree from Troy State Teachers College and her masters degree from Troy State University, Joyce taught reading at Troy Elementary and Troy Junior High School. She loved and cared for her students and her love for teaching was reflected in her student’s love for her and relationships with her beloved grandchildren.

Her love of art led her to be a docent at the Johnson Center for the Arts. Notes, pictures and articles were strewn over her dining room table prior to her leading a discussion. This passion for art was also reflected in her displays of various art forms throughout her home.

An avid reader and supporter of the Troy Public Library, Joyce appreciated the kindness of the library staff and the “your book is here” calls. A hidden passion of hers was horses. She loved to ride in younger years and was always glued to the TV during the Kentucky Derby.

She enjoyed time with the many friends she made throughout her life. She was beloved and will be missed by her family and many friends. The Conrad family appreciates the love and care that Joyce received from so many people in the Troy community.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Troy Public Library, the Johnson Center for the Arts in Troy, and the First Baptist Church of Troy. The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Conrad family.
