Joyce May Pogue Cusick, age 73, of Cassville, Missouri, passed away 1/5/2023 after a valiant 8+ year struggle with cancer. She died at home, with grace and dignity, with her husband by her side.
Joyce was born May 13, 1949, in Lamar, Colorado to Leonard W. Pogue & Jewel M. Anderson. She was united in marriage to Roger D. Cusick on April 15, 1989, in Gainesville, Florida. She is survived by Roger, of the home; son Jeffrey S. Manning (Janet) of Marathon, FL., and one sister, Janice Wheatley, Plano, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers: Dean Pogue and Dennis Pogue, 1 sister Carol Williams.
Her parents were originally from Stella, MO and Rocky Comfort, MO respectively and she lived in many different towns and states through the years: Kansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee relocating to Cassville, MO as she and Roger approached their retirement years. She had visited this area often as a child to see grandparents and family.
She loved the excitement of new places, meeting new people, learning the history of the area, and exploring what each new place had to offer and to travel in those areas and see the country. She and Roger were able to make a trip to Germany to trace Roger's German ancestors, and to Prague, Czech Republic to attend the wedding of Jeff and Janet in 2003 and again in 2012.
She was passionate about genealogy and spent many years researching her family genealogy and was proud to publish her genealogies: "Our Pogue Family" (2014) and "Walter Anderson, Adventurer, Soldier, Pioneer and allied Families: Roseberry, Warren, Foster, Hester, Brown, Dabbs" (2013).
Joyce was a collector of both bells and antique nursing bottles and shared her collections in several displays over the years. She was a long-time member of the American Bell Association and also a member of local bell chapters in both Colorado and Missouri. She was also a member of American Collectors of Infant Feeders related to her nursing bottle collection. She enjoyed travelling to different locations around the country for the annual conventions for both organizations. Memorial contributions may be made to the Barry County Museum or the Barry County Genealogy & Historical Society.
A family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the White Funeral Home and Crematory, Cassville, Missouri.
