Joyce Ann Thomas Ervin was born August 29, 1954 in Jacksonville, Florida, a daughter of Willie Thomas, Sr. and Ophelia Smith Thomas. She was educated in the public schools of Darlington County, South Carolina and graduated from Butler High School in 1972.
Joyce was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church where she worked diligently with the Missionary Society, The JBC Club, and was a founding member of the Young Women's Auxillary (YWA). Joyce also was instrumental in forming the Jerusalem Mass Choir that was composed of youth and adult members of the church. She loved her church and supported all of the programs with cheerful giving and a spiritual attitude.
Joyce enjoyed working with the members of the Butler High School "Class of '72" in the planning and implementation of reunion activities for her class. She worked for many years as a self employed day care provider as she provided a safe learning environment for many children in her own home.
Joyce was a sweet lady who enjoyed working in the yard, sitting outside, and watching birds. She loved her "little" family; her grandsons, and her great granddaughter. A strong and beautiful woman who possessed a heart of gold, Joyce will be missed by her family and friends alike.
Surviving to cherish the loving memory of Joyce Ann Thomas Ervin include her loving daughter, Kendra (Justin) Peterson; her grandsons, Ke'Arius Ervin-McCoy and De'Quincy Ervin-Love; her great-granddaughter, Harmony Ervin-McCoy, her sister, Teresa Thomas; other close relatives, her church family, her Butler High School Classmates, and many other dear friends.
