Joyce was born on July 8, 1941, at Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Roy A. and Doris I. (Hinkle) Dorman. She grew up on a farm east of Culver, KS, attended country schools in the area and graduated from Culver High School in 1959. She then attended Airline School in Omaha. After graduating from there she worked as a teletype operator for Northwest Airlines for four years.
She was united in marriage to James C. Everett, Jr. on Sept. 28, 1963, at Minneapolis, KS. The couple first lived in Winner, South Dakota, later moving to St. Paul, Grand Island, Omaha and various places in Iowa. In 1970, they returned to Grand Island until 1976, when they moved again to St. Paul with their two sons, Craig and Bret, to operate the Everett's Liquor Store for the next three years.
They also owned and operated the St. Paul Dry Cleaners for 20 years and also St. Paul Auto Sales. In the early 1990's the couple moved to a riverfront acreage near Dannebrog. She went to work with her dear friend, Darlene Klinginsmith, in housekeeping at Matelyn Retirement Community. They loved the residents there and in return the residents loved them as well. In 2010, they sold the Dannebrog acreage and moved to Central City. She retired in 2015 and they continued to live in Central City until April 1, 2024, when they moved to The Heritage at Sagewood.
Joyce loved her pets, attending her sons and later her granddaughters school activities and visiting and socializing with many dear friends.
She is survived by her husband, James C. Everett, Jr. of Grand Island; two sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Shelly Everett of Lincoln and Bret and Cathy Everett of Fort Worth, TX; and two granddaughters, Payton Everett of Omaha and Madelyn Everett of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by her parents and in-laws, James and Clarice Everett.

I am shocked and saddened at the sudden passing of Joyce. She was a lovely, lovely person and I knew her through the years in St. Paul and at Matelyn. Rog's mom loved her at Matelyn too. I thought we had more time. It was always good to run into her in Grand Island. I liked her so much.
