Joyce Leigh Franklin, 84, of Sedalia, MO, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. She was born on August 14, 1940, in Sedalia, the daughter of Russell K. Evans and Reba (Raines) Evans, who preceded her in death.
On May 29, 1959, in Sedalia, MO, she was united in marriage to Donald F. Franklin, who preceded her in death on June 4, 2016.
Joyce was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church in Sedalia and an active participant in the Sedalia Fraternal Order of the Eastern Star. A passionate reader, she engaged in three different book clubs and Bible studies and cherished her love for literature. Joyce also enjoyed traveling and swimming, which brought her great joy. With over 30 years of experience as an elementary school teacher, she retired from the Sedalia #200 School District in 1992. Following her retirement, she continued to make a difference in her community by working with Parents as Teachers for several years. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her Yahoo Branson group. Joyce especially loved sharing her swimming pool with friends and family.
Joyce is survived by two daughters, Doneta Handley (James) of Sedalia and Cyndrea Lambert of Carrollton; four grandchildren, Evan Handley (Brea), Aron Handley, Shayne Lambert (Maggie) and Skyler Lambert (Courtney); ten great-grandchildren, Taylen, Tayona, Taydin, Corbin, Joshua, Nora, Hunter, Mowgli, Elleanndra, and CheyLee; a brother; Randy Evans (Debbie) of Jefferson City, MO; two nephews, Ryan Evans (Erin) and Chris Evans (Katya); a niece, Amy Henderson (Scott); six great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Kevin Walker officiating.
The graveside committal will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Pastor Candace Fowler officiating.
Pallbearers will be Evan Handley, Aron Handley, Ryan Evans, Chris Evans, Scott Henderson, and Mark Thomas.
Honorary bearers will be Shayne Lambert, Skyler Lambert, Randy Evans, and Thomas Beck.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, Thompson location, in the care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
