Joyce Gibson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Crematory on Oct. 1, 2025.
Minnie Joyce Gibson, 80, died Aug. 9, 2025. She was born March 6, 1945, in Fort Pierce to the late Benjamin Franklin Royals and Clyde Juanita Brantley. Joyce grew up in a large family in Jennings, and later spent parts of her life in Okeechobee and Lee before moving to Southern Indiana to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. There, she married Bill Gibson in 2019.
Though she called many places home, Joyce's passions remained throughout her life. She loved fishing, tending to her beautiful gardens, cooking delicious Southern cuisine and spending time with her family, whom she was always there for as a comforting wife, mother and grandmother. She also devoted herself to the Lord and seeking His Word, so much so that 2 Corinthians 5:8 will forever be heard in her voice, "Absent from the body and present with the Lord," Amen to His promises.
Joyce's strength and faith allowed her to persevere and lead a life full of happiness and excitement, no matter the challenges she faced. She had wisdom that could help her loved ones navigate any obstacles, and a sense of humor that could make them laugh through any tears. The values she held dear will live on through everyone who loved her.
Preceded in death by her son, LaDon Strickland, Joyce is survived by her husband, Bill Gibson of Jeffersonville, Indiana; her children, Joy Strickland of Louisville, Kentucky, Donald Fisher (Jenn) of Mascotte, and Tim McCammon of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, John and Tiffany Boyle of Louisville, Ryan and Casey Fisher of Mascotte, and Payton and Tristan McCammon of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania; and great-grandchildren, Eloise and Vincent Huls of Louisville.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Evergreen Cemetery.
