Joyce Ann Falin Grubb Age 86, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend whose faith was a guiding light, has gone home to be with Jesus and her heavenly family on Tuesday Feb. 18, 2025. Joyce was born on Tuesday Nov. 8, 1938, in Kingsport, TN to the late Roy Samuel and Cleo (Shell) Falin.

She was a child of God first and had a deep and abiding love for Jesus. As an only child, often called “Jodie B”, her heart was happiest when she was surrounded by people. She often spoke of her cherished memories of babysitting her cousins as a child and found particular joy in working with children with disabilities in high school. Her love for people, especially children led her into a babysitting job as teen where she met the love of her life, a friend of the Little family who she babysat for.

Her whole heart belonged to James Powell “Pete” Grubb, the love of her life, to whom she remained devoted and greatly missed until her passing. Pete & Joy exchanged vows in 1956, and she took her role as a devoted wife and incorporated that devotion into motherhood of their 4 children. Joyce broke barriers and took great pride and responsibility as one of the pioneering women and served as a security guard at Y-12 National Security Complex, a position held by few women at the time. Joyce found peace and adventure in the natural world, often alongside her husband, Pete, in hunting and fishing expeditions. She was a passionate advocate for animal welfare and a devoted animal lover.

She was a compassionate philanthropist, contributing to a wide range of causes that made a difference in people's lives. Aside from her living her life devoted to Jesus, she poured her heart into her greatest accomplishment and fulfillment in the roles she cherished most, of that being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her life was defined by her love for people. She never met a stranger, she never met you without a smile on her face and to know Joy was to love Joy. The closest thing to Jesus in the flesh. She loved to be loved and loved with her whole heart! Her light shone brightly for those fortunate enough to know her, but even in her absence, its warmth is felt by those who understand the magnitude of what the world has lost.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James P Grubb. Her son, James Scott Grubb and grandson, James Michael Grubb. She leaves behind her children, Tobye (Gary) Lowe, Rorrye (Billie) Byrge and Teresa (Nathan) Grubb-Vann.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Autumn and Josh Grubb, Jeremiah, Josh and Justice Byrge, Nikki Caver, Fallon & Robert Childs, Jason & Nicole Hedrick and her great grandchildren, Destiny & Madison Jones, Garrett Wilson, Zachary Byrge, Elijah Byrge, Aubrey Byrge, Nevaeh Frazier, Haydn, Dallas and Grayson Hedrick, Ila and Nox Childs and her great-great grandchildren Cooper, Walker and Ellie Wilson, and Zaia Gray. She also leaves behind her beloved brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. With a special “sister” and her best friend, Bettye Miller.
