RURAL RETREAT, VA

“When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure”

Joyce Sarah Hawks Johnson, passed peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at home surrounded by love, after a lengthy illness.

A shining light to her family, love for God, and a smile for all will forever be cherished. Her son Bunzie, passed in 1997 at the age of 27, whom she took care of until his death. She remained on this Earth another 27 years with her daughters, until her Lord said it’s time to come home to see your son. Her life came full circle as the Lord blessed her with the same love and kindness. After several years with the DANA CORP, her time was spent with the grandchildren and great grandchildren shopping and going to yard sales. She loved decorating, especially for Christmas, working in her flowers and beautiful days on her back porch. She could often be found there with her family and friends, drinking coffee, cooking out, talking with Tony, and her fur babies. The little things mattered the most and she lived a full simple life. Along with her son, Bunzie, she is preceded in death by her parents Weston & Ruth Hawks; brother Gary Hawks; grandson Steven Marshall; and brother-in-law Larry Lemons.

Joyce leaves behind her loving partner Tony Stone; four daughters Dorrenda Dolph, Angie Johnson, Michele Keesee & husband Mutt, and Melody Miller & husband Darrell; grandchildren Amanda Hash & husband Tommy; Terry Marshall & wife Tara, Brandy Price, Kali Price, Bodie Keesee, and Karlie Miller & husband Levi; great grandchildren Derek Hash & fiancé Katrina, Weston Hash, Katey Marshall, Chasity Osborne, Clayton Osborne, Jason Price, Gage Widner, Tanner Marshall, and Sawyer Marshall; sisters Pam Galloway & husband Phil, and Jewel Lemons; father of her children Paul Johnson, Sr.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special Thanks to Wythe Hospice of SWVA and nurses Vickie and Mary, caregiver Vickie Testerman for all the love care and support given to Joyce and the family.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM, Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Phillipi Family Cemetery in Mountain City, TN. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
