Wright Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Hawley & Lake ParkJoyce E. Larson, 89, of Hawley, MN passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Hawley Senior Living, Hawley, MN, under the care of Hearts in Action (HIA) Hospice.
Joyce Ellen Larson was born in Thief River Falls, MN on May 31, 1936, to Christ and Laura (Brown) Anton. She grew up on the family farm in Thief River Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1953.
Joyce married Warren Larson in Thief River Falls on September 25, 1955. After several years of living in Thief River Falls they relocated to Hawley in the early 1970s where they continued to raise their two daughters. Joyce and Warren later divorced, however, renewed a close friendship years later.
Joyce had a heart for service. She was a member of Hawley Lutheran Church. Her entire working career was centered around helping others. She worked many years as a Personal Care Assistant at the CCRI group home in Hawley, a job she loved dearly.
Joyce received great pleasure making many gifts of cross stitching, crocheting and knitting for her family and friends. Although very modest, she was often told how talented she was with a needle and thread.
Joyce resided at Hawley Senior Living for the last several years interacting with staff and residents and making many friendships. She enjoyed the activities and was always ready for a good Bingo game.
Joyce is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl (Eric) Wicker and Cindy (Bob) Willits. Four granddaughters, Erica (Casey) Marshall, Chrissy (Steven) Kartes, Angie (Casey) Rysavy, and Mackenzie (Camille Thone) Willits. Six great-grandchildren, Gwenie and Johanna Marshall, Seri and Sawyer Kartes, and Wyland and Max Rysavy. Brother, Arnold Anton; brother-in-law, Dale Heaton; Warren Larson; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Roger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister, and sister, Alice Heaton.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. with a visitation one hour before the service at Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN.
