Joyce Lowden Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service - North Chapel on Mar. 4, 2026.
Joyce Lowden

October 11, 1946 ~ February 25, 2026

Joyce Lowden (79) of Greenwood passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 25th. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished Nana, beloved sister, aunt, and loyal friend whose life was anchored in faith, family, and heritage.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis Euber; her father George Gunter; and her sister, Susan McCray.

Joyce is survived by her beloved husband, John Lowden, with whom she shared 61 years of unconditional love, steadfast partnership, and deep respect. Through every joy and every challenge, they stood side by side, modeling a marriage that inspired all who knew them.

She is also survived by her three children: Andrew Lowden (Christy), Elizabeth Auffrey (Todd), and Rob Lowden (Aries). As a mother, she was a steady source of comfort, wisdom, and unwavering encouragement. She listened without judgment, guided with patience, and loved without limits.

Her love multiplied as her family grew. She was a proud Nana to nine grandchildren: Haley Auffrey, Jonathan Lowden, Patrick Auffrey, Meghan Campos, Maxwell Lowden, Brandon Lowden, Austin Lowden, Tyler Lowden, Alyssa Lowden and 3 great grandchildren: Rosabelle Campos, Bennett Auffrey, and Kensley Lowden. She attended everything - sporting events, school programs, weddings, anniversaries - and showed up for every milestone and every moment of need. If it mattered to her family, it mattered to her.

She is also survived by her sister, Peggy Gunter, along with many beloved nieces and nephews with whom she remained closely connected throughout her life.

Proud of her Irish and Scottish heritage and deeply devoted to her Catholic faith, Joyce lived her beliefs daily through kindness, forgiveness, generosity, and quiet strength. She was known for her compassionate heart and busy hands, always crocheting blankets for grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends' new babies - to those fortunate enough to receive a blanket they can know it was made with love stitch - by - stitch.

Joyce will be remembered for her resilience, enduring faith, and the fierce devotion she had to those she loved. Though she will be profoundly missed, her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured and the countless lives she touched simply by always being there.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 20th at 11:00am at Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi, 5901 Olive Branch Rd, Greenwood, IN 46143.

Catholic Mass will immediately follow at 12:00pm.
