Joyce Jeanette Lucas Morris was born on July 28, 1939 in Houston, Texas to Milton & Mary Lucas. She grew up in Port Houston along with her two brothers. Her childhood was shared with many close cousins and filled with memories of her father and brothers avid hunting and fishing and cooking and sewing with her dear mother.
A Milby High School graduate, Joyce married the love of her life, Bill Morris in January 1959. They welcomed a son and a daughter then six grandchildren and 3+ great-grandchildren. Joyce had a long and distinguished career in real estate as an agent, then broker, business owner and leader in the Pasadena and Deer Park Board of Realtors. She continued that career when they moved to Washington County.
In Pasadena & Deer Park, Joyce was active in Eta Sigma Gamma, Armand Bayou Nature Center, and a leader for Cub Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, team mom, room mom and so many helpful pursuits. Camping, gardening, sewing, cooking, nature and history were all areas of interest and expertise for Joyce.
When Bill & Joyce built their hilltop home near Chappell Hill, she became involved in the Chappell Hill Historical Society, United Methodist Women, Herb Society, Canasta Club, and various book clubs and ladies groups. Bill and Joyce volunteered at a Brenham nursing home and their turn at Bingo events were much appreciated. Joyce made sure no birthday was forgotten. They were active in Bible Studies at Methodist churches in Brenham and Chappell HIll. Joyce also enjoyed walking with the "Over the Hill Gang'' and water aerobics.
Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, Joyce faced it with spirit and determination until all treatment options were exhausted. She faced the end knowing she was finishing a life well lived. She will be remembered and loved by her family forever.
Joyce is survived by her devoted husband, Bill, her son Joe (Donna), daughter, Karen (Barry - her favorite son-in-law), grandchildren - Casey, Jessica, Alaina, Tyler, Parker, & Nolan and great grandchildren - Landry, Harper, Larkin and another expected. She is also fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews and an extended family of cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and many friends and cousins who welcome her home.
A private family visitation was held April 8th 2023 at the chapel of Deer Park Funeral Directors followed by a graveside service at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
