Joyce Matthews, 86, passed away on June 6, 2025, in Mansfield, Texas. She was born on September 3, 1938, in Darlove, Mississippi. Joyce was the daughter of Henry B. Wilson and Willie Mae. Her family made a significant move to Arlington, Texas, in 1953, where her life would take a beautiful turn.
In 1956, Joyce encountered the love of her life, Richard Matthews. Their connection was instant and profound, culminating in a whirlwind marriage just three weeks later. Together they built a life filled with love and laughter, celebrating nearly 60 years of marriage before Richard's passing. Their union was blessed with three children, who were the light of Joyce's life.
Joyce dedicated over 20 years to serving as a school food service worker at Mansfield Independent School District, where her nurturing spirit made an impact on the students
Joyce enjoyed cooking, gardening, collecting dolls, dancing and loved spending time with her family
Joyce will be remembered by family and friends as being full of energy, spirit and determination. Her legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard H. Matthews, Sr. her parents, Henry and Willie Mae Wilson; her daughter, Charlotte Fulmer; her son, Richard H. Matthews, Jr.; her sisters Ruby Billings, Jean Brothers, Judy Sawyers, Mae Belle Wilson, and her brother, James Wilson.
Joyce is survived by her daughter; Annette Crowley, grandchildren; Wesley Knight, Tracy Mays, Jason Matthews, Crystal Earl, Jon Fulmer, Tyler Crowley, and Kacie Mitchell. Also, thirteen great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on June 14, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:30 PM at Blessing Funeral Home, located at 401 Elm St, Mansfield, TX 76063.
