Joyce McConnell Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wooster Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Elmore City on Nov. 20, 2025.
Joyce Perrye Blundell McConnell was born to Bill and Ada (Taylor) Blundell, in Royal, Oklahoma, on August 13, 1937. She passed away at her home in Pernell, Oklahoma, on November 19, 2025.
She went to school at Burrows High, Fox and Pernell Schools, graduating from Pernell High School in 1954.
She married her high school sweetheart, Glenford McConnell, on August 28, 1955, at Shady Grove Church in Foster, Oklahoma.
She was a member of Shady Grove Church from childhood, and, alongside Glenford, raised her children there. She taught Sunday School, directed and taught Vacation Bible School, and was a constant presence in the kitchen, cooking and serving for all the things at the church.
Joyce was a talented seamstress, always sewing beautiful items for her children and grandchildren. She was a cook for her big family at a time when there were no drive-thru restaurants. Her homemade biscuits were legendary and she often made 2 pizza pans full of biscuits when cooking for the whole family. Those biscuits and her chocolate gravy were a favorite of kids and grandkids alike. Her homemade pies and pie crusts were like none other. Raising big gardens, canning, freezing and jelly-making were regular summer activities.
She owned and operated The Dairy Hut next to the Pernell School in the late '60's and enjoyed daily contact with all the school kids who came over to buy a 25 cent hamburger or play a country song on the juke box.
She owned the Sewing Bee in Lindsay in the late '70's and early '80's, and teaching classes there was a joy for her. She was co-owner and bookkeeper at G & J Construction with Glenford from 1973 until 1998, and knew the answer to every business question imaginable for the company.
One of her favorite jobs was being Grandma Joyce, or as some of her great- grandchildren called her, "Grandma Joyous."
Sleepovers at Grandma and Papa's house, with pallets on the floor followed by one of Grandma's breakfasts are still a favorite memory of all the grandkids.
She was a precious and caring wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.
She is survived by Glenford, her husband of 70 years, 5 children, Patti Allen and husband, Gary of Denton, TX, Steve and wife Eva, McConnell and Keevin McConnell of Pernell, Tim and wife, Cheryl McConnell of Foster and Cindy Acord and husband, Joe of Chandler, 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 -
great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Ada Blundell, her brother, Edward Blundell, and her sweet granddaughter, Joni McConnell.
Glenford made a promise to her years ago that he would try his best to never place her in a nursing home, and with the help of family and caregivers, he was able to fulfill that promise. The family would like to especially thank her caregivers as well as LifeSpring Home Health and Hospice Care.
