Joyce was born October 7, 1941, in Anson County, NC and was a daughter of the late Harvey Horne and the late Myrtle Mills Gregory. She attended Mecklenburg County Public Schools and later returned to Anson County. She retired from Anson County Schools, having worked in the cafeteria at Anson High School.
In the early years, she attended the Wadesboro Pentecostal Holiness Church with her grandmother, Ila Mae Mills who was the church pianist and Joyce called her mama. Joyce’s children remember going with her to hear their great-grandmother play the piano for worship services too.
Joyce was a long-time member of Southside Baptist Church, and she dearly loved her church family. She was an excellent cook and really enjoyed cooking. She also enjoyed working in her yard, having a garden, growing tomatoes, and listening to Jimmy Swaggart and the Gaither Homecoming Friends.
A devoted mother and grandmother, she was especially proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those who are left to cherish her memory are her children, Jan Cox (Mike Brown) of Pageland, SC, Mike McIntyre (Dana) of Monroe, Kim Johnson (Scott) of Mt. Croghan, SC and Tammy Edwards (Donnie) of Wadesboro; her grandchildren, Joy Richardson (Tim) of Albemarle, Carli Northcutt (Steve) of Wadesboro, Michael McIntyre (Courtney) of Kannapolis, Matthew McIntyre (Crystal) of Pueblo, CO, Garrett McIntyre (Kassandra) of Monroe, Jeremy Johnson (Brittany) of Effingham, SC, Ryne Johnson (Bethany) of Mt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne McIntyre, her sister, Judy Rivellese and her beloved dog, Bella.
The family is most grateful to her granddaughters, Carli and Courtney, and her niece, Michelle, for the loving ways in which they helped to care for her.
