Mildred Joyce Morse Methvin peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by family, on Monday, November 24, 2025, in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, at the age of 96. She was born on Sunday, December 9, 1928, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Dow and Maude Morse. She was a resident of Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
Joyce was a radiant soul whose kindness touched everyone she met. She worked as a registered nurse for many years at Belle Maison Nursing Home, caring for her patients with a level of compassion and gentleness that made her a true saint in the eyes of many. Known for her selfless spirit, she was always giving, whether through her warm smile, her delicious home-cooked meals, or the homemade kombucha she happily shared with anyone who wanted a taste. Joyce was the sweetest person, who devoted her life to her family. She will be deeply missed, but her love and generosity will live on in the countless lives she touched.
Joyce is survived by her sons, Gerald Robert Methvin, Jr. (Bonnie) of Houston, Texas, and Jack Methvin (Shirley); daughters, Norma Traylor and Debbie Methvin; grandchildren, Vickie Methvin Maywald, Becky Methvin Wilson, Amy Methvin Descant, Jody Methvin Dickerson, Jay Methvin, Chad Traylor, and Bevin Traylor; 22 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter due on Decemeber 10, 2025, Isla Faye.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Gerald Robert Methvin, Sr.; father, Dow Morse; mother, Maude Causey Morse; grandson, Justin Traylor; sister, Dorothy Navarre; brother, Johnny Morse; and son-in-law, Jimmy Traylor.
