Joyce Modert Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 23, 2025.
Joyce Ann Modert, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of Christ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Summit Hospital in Hermitage, Tennessee, surrounded by her loving family. She was 78.

Joyce was born on October 31, 1946, in Dixon, Illinois, to Riley Coleman and Irene Virginia Robertson. She graduated from Dixon High School and, on December 27, 1964, married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, John Modert, in Waverly, Tennessee.

Together, John and Joyce built a beautiful life grounded in love, faith, and family. Joyce was a devoted mother to her two children: Darla Modert Leos of Santa Maria, California, and Robert (Amy) Modert of Mount Juliet, Tennessee. She was a proud grandmother to Veralynn Parker, Ernie Leos, Krystal Leos, Krystine Leos, and Nora Modert, and a cherished great-grandmother to Miles Parker, Vivienne Parker, and Theo Parker.

She is also survived by her loving siblings: Betty Mosley of Brentwood, Tennessee, and Jerry (Joy) Robertson of Charlotte, Tennessee.

A woman of deep faith, Joyce dedicated her life to serving others through her work in the church. Over the years, she served faithfully as a church pianist, Sunday school teacher, secretary, administrator, and lecturer for Every Woman's Grace. She led numerous women's Bible studies and poured her heart into children's ministry. She graduated from Logos Bible Institute and was honored to help transcribe the study notes for the MacArthur Study Bible-her name appearing in the printed edition, a reflection of her enduring devotion to Scripture.

One Father's Day, Joyce surprised John with his first flying lesson-an experience that sparked years of shared adventure. Together, they enjoyed exploring new places and visiting unique restaurants from the sky, creating treasured memories that reflected their sense of fun and closeness.

Joyce had a passion for Southern Gospel music, loved reading, and found great joy in spending time with her family-especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Judson Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., with the service following at 11:00 a.m.

Those who wish to honor Joyce's memory are invited to make a donation in her name to Judson Baptist Church 4900 Franklin Pike, Nashville, TN 37220.

Joyce's legacy of unconditional love, faith, and service will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
