Joyce Allen Morey, 102, died on March 1,2024 at her home in Tifton G, where she resided for
70 years.
She was born on December 25, 1921 in Hettinger ND to Fred Keith Allen and Alys Grace
(lngraham) Allen. The oldest of 6 children, Joyce grew up in Strool SD. She graduated from
Lemon SD High School (as valedictorian) in 1939 and attended Kansas State University in
Manhattan KS, where she met Darrell Morey. They married in Minneapolis MN on November,
18, 1940. They came to Tifton GA in 1953 where Darrell worked at the Coastal Plain
Experiment Station as a small grain breeder for 33 years and where they raised 4 daughters and
2 sons.
Joyce became an avid student of the Bible and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on
December 12, 1953. She was a capable wife, good cook and homemaker, and wonderful
mother. Her good example as a Christian touched many lives over her long life. She well
displayed the "quiet and mild spirit" (1 Pet. 3:4), "moderate in habits, faithful in all things,
(lTim. 3:11) and "modesty and soundness of mind, devotion to God, namely through good
works" (1Tim. 2:9,t}l.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Darrell, two of her children, Sheryl and
Roger Morey, her beloved daughter-in-law, Bootsie Morey, and a granddaughter, Hope Benzie
Haight.
She is survived by her children: Janice Spencer, Tifton GA; Margery Benzie, Paris Ky; Stanley
Morey, Eustis FL; and Carolyn Orebaugh (Tim), Columbus OH.
8 grandchildren: Virginia Spencer, Douglasville GA; Keith Spencer, Douglasville GA; Kay Spencer,
Jonesboro GA; Shaina Benzie, Berea KY; Kevin Benzie, San Diego CA; Marcie Morey, Eustis, Fl. Matthew Orebaugh
(Annemarie), Columbus OH; and Christie Orebaugh, Columbus, OH.
She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren and one sister Ardath Waisanen, Deadwood, SD
