Obituary of Joyce Laverne Okerstrom
Joyce Lavern Okerstrom passed away peacefully on December 2, 2023 in Essentia Health, St. Mary's Medical Center Duluth, Minnesota the age of 93. Joyce was born in and was a long time resident of Cloquet, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Leroy and Sophie Okerstrom and is survived by her brother Tom Okerstrom and brother-in-law Marv Swanson, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Roland Okerstrom and his wife Eileen Okerstrom, her sister Paulette Swanson and her sister-in-law Nona Okerstrom.
She was employed as a nurse for many years at Raiter Clinic and Hospital and the Cloquet Memorial Hospital before operating an adult medical foster home for 38 years. She will be remembered for her unwavering Christian faith, dedication to family and friends and compassionate care for anyone in need.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. in Atkins Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet on Saturday, December 16, 2023. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet. A luncheon will follow the burial in the Fireside room in Atkins Northland Funeral Home.
