A Memorial Service will be held for Joyce Dean Moreland Rawls, age 86, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 405 East 5th Street in Homer, LA, on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 3:00 p.m., with Rev. Danny Triplet, officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2-3 p.m., prior to the service.
Joyce was born July 2, 1938, in Stamps, AR, to Lester W. and Bessie Stewart Moreland. She entered into rest on July 30, 2024, in Minden, LA. Joyce met the love of her life, Buddy, at a diner in Stamps, AR, where she was waiting on tables in 1959. After dating, Buddy proposed to her and they married on August 15, 1959. She was a “dang good” cook and could make a dollar stretch further than anyone could think. Joyce and Buddy resided in Homer for 50 years. She had a real soft heart for animals. She loved and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and had fun making memories with them. Joyce was the best wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Dustin Bailey; and two brothers, W.G. Moreland and Doyle Moreland.
She is survived by her loving husband of almost 65 years, William “Buddy” A. Rawls; son, Steven Rawls and wife Trish of Fredrickburg, TX; two daughters, Rhonda Rawls of Bastrop, LA, and Brandy Witt of Monroe, LA; six grandchildren, Ceciley Bailey, Blake Bailey, A.J. Rawls, Hank Rawls, Jada Cooper, and Kendall Cooper; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Joyce’s family would like to express their gratitude to daytime RN Victoria and evening time RN Mercedes, Dr. Arnett, Dr. Koticha and his staff for the care and compassion shown her during her final days.
