Patricia Ann Bays Atkins Harvey born April 20, 1938 to Ernest Earl and Blanche Brantley Bays in Haynesville, Louisiana. Patricia grew up in Homer, LA, as an only child. Her father owned the Bays PAM-AM gas station in Homer with her mother being a housewife. Patricia graduated from Homer High School where she was a member of the band playing the clarinet. She loved music and took piano lessons for several years. She was number 6 out of 10 of honor students in her graduating class. She attended Ayers Business College and decided to quit to marry the love of her life Joe Randall Atkins also from Homer. They had three children; Randall Earl Atkins (Deceased), Penny Denise Atkins Johnson (Terry Johnson) of Bossier City, LA, and Jody Dwayne Atkins (Connie Ferrington-deceased) of Swartz, LA. Joe and Patricia raised their children in Monroe, LA. She was affectionately called “Mamaw Pat” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Patricia had four grandchildren; Brandy Atkins, Brian Atkins, Matthew Johnson (Kimberly Butcher), and Tiffany Johnson Tanuyan (George Tanuyan). She had six great-grandchildren; Joseph Atkins, Garrett Atkins, Emily Tanuyan, Elizabeth Tanuyan, Jaxson Cathey, and Brooklyn Caldwell.
Patricia had the strongest and longest school friendships of five called the gang that continued to maintain contact through their life. Patricia developed a love for Jesus Christ at a very early age and maintained a close walk with her Lord. Patricia loved to talk about Jesus and often prayed for those in need. She was a good listener and loved the gift of gab. She loved giving hugs and kisses and made those around her feel loved. Patricia will be greatly missed here on earth. She knows that she will once again reunite with family and friends that have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. For this reason, SHE IS REJOICING!
Patricia’s family would like to express their gratitude to The Guess Nursing Home and Elara Caring Hospice both of West Monroe, LA, for the care and compassion shown her during her final days.
Honorary pallbearers were Matthew Johnson, Brian Atkins, George Tanuyan, Joseph Atkins, and Garrett Atkins.
In lieu of flowers honoring Patricia, her family suggests memorials be made to American Cancer Society.
