Funeral services for Mr. James “Albert” Austin, age 94, of Athens, LA, will be held Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 405 East 5th Street, Homer, LA, with Bro. C. B. Shepherd and Rev. Perry Anderson, officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Old Athens. Visitation will be at the same day from 11:00 a.m.-1 p.m., prior to the service.
Albert was born Oct 6, 1931, in Athens, LA, to Edgar and Mary Duke Austin. He entered into rest on Sunday, February, 22, 2026, in Bossier City, LA. Albert was a resident at the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home.
He was a hardworking and dedicated man to his family and community. Albert served the country he loved for two years in the US Army. He was the owner and proprietor of Austin’s Exxon in Athens until it shut down. He was employed by Sawyer Drilling briefly and also ran the mail route for 35+ years with the USPS. Albert retired on April 25, 2019 and that is the official James Austin Day in Claiborne Parish. He was a lifelong member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Athens. He loved fooling with his cows. Albert was always someone you could count on if you needed help. When you had Albert as a friend, you had a true friend.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bobbie Triplet Austin; brother, Billy Austin; and sister, Faye Wood.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Fulmer Austin; son, Bret Austin and wife Kelly; daughter, Belinda Ebarb and husband Paul; sister, Beatrice Shepherd and husband Rev. C. B.; stepdaughter, April Moody and husband Ray of Benton, LA; six grandchildren, Courtney Austin, Cody and Kirstyn Bordelon, Alexis Redding, Mason and Sullivan Moody; five great-grandchildren, Chloe, Colson, Parker, Kennedy and Tatum; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Albert’s family would like to express their gratitude to the Northwest Louisiana War Veteran Home for the care and compassion shown him.
Pallbearers will be Keith Gantt, Keith Watkins, Paul Cook, Cody Bordelon, Ray Moody, and Mason Moody
Honorary pallbearers will be Buzzy Buckner and Ronnie Liles.
