Martha Ann Nicholson Scott, age 89, passed away peacefully in her home and was received by her loving Heavenly Father on February 7, 2026.
Born at home in Arcadia, Louisiana, on August 6, 1936, she was the daughter of Bennie Nicholson and Verdie Keen Nicholson Dance. She graduated from Athens High School in 1954 and later completed BGI Business School in Shreveport LA as a paralegal. She was employed for several years at Robinson Law Firm in Homer, Louisiana, before working at the Claiborne Parish Extension Office. She owned her own clothing business -Accents Unique and co-owned Sweet Memories Antiques along with her sister.
On October 3, 1959, she married Paul Leroy Scott, beginning a devoted marriage that spanned 66 years. As a proud Air Force wife, Martha faithfully supported Paul throughout his military career. Stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, his tours of duty led them across many states in the United States and overseas. Martha’s favorite assignment was the four years they spent in Okinawa, Japan. She was an active member of the Military Wives Club and the Okinawa International Women’s Club, forming friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime. Following Paul’s retirement from the United States Air Force in 1977, they settled in Homer, Louisiana.
Martha was blessed with one son, Jeff, who was her pride and joy.
A true classic Southern lady, Martha had a deep love for blue and white décor, antiques, and traditional design. She was an avid gardener and longtime member of the Athens Garden Club. Her patio was always in bloom, reflecting the care and joy she found in potting plants and flowers. She also generously volunteered at the First Baptist Thrift Store.
She was a devoted fan of John Wayne — even having the opportunity to have a picture taken with him. She also loved Elvis Presley and had his Christmas album always playing during the Christmas holiday.
Martha will be remembered for her grace, hospitality, steady faith, and the beauty she cultivated in both her home and the lives of those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Bennie Nicholson and Verdie Keen Nicholson Dance.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Paul Leroy Scott; her son, Jeff Scott and wife Sherry; her grandchildren, Victoria Pennington and husband Alex of Newark, Ohio; Sarah Scott of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and Chad Webb of Nashville, Tennessee; her sister, Linda McHam of Homer, Louisiana; her nephew, Greg McHam of Homer; her sisters-in-law, Mary Mead of Texarkana, Arkansas, and Evelyn Scott of West Monroe, Louisiana and many more nieces and nephews.
The family extends special gratitude to Doctors Mark and Scott Haynes and the loving support from Hand in Hand Hospice for their sincere compassionate care.
