Joyce Karga Reed, 67, passed away October 27, 2025, in Virginia Beach, VA.
Joyce was born June 20, 1958 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to James Karga and Frances Magrath Karga.
Joyce graduated from Reynoldsburg High School in 1976 and went on to earn her degree in nursing from Central Ohio Technical College in 1979.
She began her career as an R.N. and continued for 40 years.
Joyce married Timothy Reed on September 9th, 1978 at St. Pius X in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. They had 3 children: Bonnie, Jean, and Daniel.
Joyce was best known for the love of family as well as reading, crafts, and travel. She was a Girl Scout from Brownies all the way through to senior scouts. She was a member of the High School Outdoors Club (where she met Tim). She also participated in Track and Field. She played softball & lettered at COTC.
In retirement she was a dedicated caretaker to her family and grandchildren.
Joyce is survived by her children Bonnie Reed, Jean Deponceau (Ethan, Noah, Nathan, and Jonah) and Daniel Reed (Elizabeth with Eli, Hunter, and Emily) as well as siblings Evelyn Morgan, Rose Wright, Jim Karga, Mary Karga, and Kevin Karga, along with many generations of nieces and nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by James Karga (father), Frances Magrath Karga (mother), Timothy Reed (spouse) and in-laws Jean and Wylie Reed.
The family will receive friends from 5:30-9pm on Friday, November 7th at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel (1485 Kempsville Road Virginia Beach, VA 23464). A funeral mass for Joyce will be held at 10am on Saturday, November 8th, at the Catholic Church of St. Mark (1505 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23464).
Memorial donations can be made in Joyce Reed's name to American Cancer Society.
