Joyce Louise Orner Rexrode, 90, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah House in Fishersville.
She was born on January 18, 1936, in Augusta County, to the late Paul Jacob and Mattie Irene Back Orner.
Joyce was a graduate of Wilson Memorial High School.
For more than twenty-seven years, Joyce served as a dorm parent at the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind in Staunton.
Joyce was a joyful soul who loved music and found happiness in singing hymns. Her faith was central to her life, and she loved the Lord deeply. While her health allowed, she was actively involved at Mount Tabor Lutheran Church in Staunton.
Above all else, Joyce loved her family with her whole heart. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she was deeply involved in their lives every step of the way. She was a “den mom” in the biggest sense. Her home was always open and served as the gathering place for her children’s friends. It was a place where everyone felt accepted, safe, and loved.
She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Joyce Rexrode Botkin; her son, Dwight “Chubby” Rexrode and his wife, Nancy; her daughter-in-law, Becki Rexrode; her grandchildren, Nathan Rexrode and his wife, Sydney, Kristen Rexrode, Matthew Rexrode and his wife, Jennifer, Michael Rexrode, David Botkin, Courtney Botkin and her husband, Ethan Whitehead; and her great-grandchildren, Jacob Puffenbarger, and Taylor, Lauren, Camden, and Parker Rexrode.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, David Thomas Rexrode; her son, Danny Thomas Rexrode; and her son-in-law, Ronnie Botkin.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Mount Tabor Lutheran Church in Staunton with Jack Glover officiating.
Interment will immediately follow at Mount Tabor Lutheran Church Cemetery.
