Thomas Eugene Long, 74, widower of Donna Turner Long, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at his residence in Staunton.
He was born on March 7, 1951, in Staunton to the late Eugene Lawhorne and Annie Catherine Wiseman Long.
For most of his life, Thomas was a proud owner-operator truck driver, working for numerous local trucking companies. He took great pride in his work and was known as a dependable, hardworking man.
When he wasn’t behind the wheel, Thomas loved camping trips and spending time outdoors. He had a natural gift for conversation and truly never met a stranger.
He was also a die-hard Chevrolet fan - loyal to the bowtie brand through and through.
He is survived by his son, Douglas Howard Smith and his wife, Heather; his daughter, Kimberley Major and her husband, Jeremiah; his grandchildren, Laura Kate Cash and her husband, Nathan and Alayna Wingfield and her husband, Kyle; his grandchildren, Kenley, Everley, and Reed Smith; his brother, Dennis Raymond Long; a special niece, Cindy Long; his nieces, Angel and Cathy Long; his nephew, Dennis Long, Jr.; a special brother-in-law, Bobby Turner; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife of twenty-eight years and his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Ronald Linwood Long, Sr. and Richard Elwood Long; and his sisters, Linda Catherine Long Homesly and Jean Long Reble.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton with Reverend Russell Heinrich.
