Joyce Robinson

Joyce Robinson died peacefully on Monday, February 23, after succumbing to the effects of dementia. She was 94 years old.

Born on August 2, 1931, in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, Joyce was the beloved daughter of Renato "Bige" and Mildred Calchera. She carried with her throughout her life the strong work ethic and steady determination that defined her New England roots.

Joyce graduated from the University of Connecticut and began her professional life as a proofreader, a career she devoted herself to for more than 20 years. Joyce was never one to believe it was too late to chase a new dream. At the age of 60, with courage and resolve, she returned to school to pursue her lifelong calling of becoming a registered nurse.

In 1994, she proudly graduated and began her nursing career in Labor & Delivery and later in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Caring for mothers and newborns brought her profound joy and purpose. Her compassion, steady hands, and gentle presence touched countless families during some of the most meaningful moments of their lives.

Above all, Joyce's greatest pride and deepest love was her family. She is survived by her three children: Gregory (Ada), Nancy Niles (Donnie), and Donna Berger (Vin). She was the cherished "Mimi" to Corbett, Emily, and Jenna Berger, and to her grandson Aaron Robinson (Barbara). Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she delighted in their accomplishments, milestones, and everyday joys.

Joyce also leaves behind her dear friend of many years, Fred Volpe, whose companionship brought her comfort and laughter.
