Joyce Ann Russell, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on October 13, 2025, at the age of 86 in Dalton, Georgia. Born on December 27, 1938, in Terre Haute, Indiana, Joyce lived a life filled with service to others and devotion to her family.
For 23 years, Joyce made her mark as a supply technician at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Her work ethic and dedication were part of what defined her, but her true legacy lies in the love she shared with her family and the kindness she showed to her community. She was a steadfast member of the Missionary Society, actively seeking opportunities to help the sick and feed the homeless. Her compassion extended far and wide, touching the lives of many in need.
When she was just 10 years old, Joyce accepted Christ as her personal savior, a decision that would guide her through the ups and downs of life. She and her sons traveled extensively during her husband Walter's military career, creating memories that they would cherish forever. After he retired, they found a lasting home in Dayton, Ohio—a place where she cultivated friendships and contributed to her community.
Joyce is survived by her son, Jerome K. Russell, and cherished grandchildren Tenisha M. Harper and Tyler A. Plsek. Joyce took great joy in being a grandmother to her eight great-grandchildren: Iesha Broughton, Steven Parks, Michael Sims, Mason Harper, Navaeh Harper, Curven Plsek, and Dek. She also leaves behind her siblings: Marilyn June (Bullard) Poston, William Alfred Bullard, and Harold Lavelle Bullard, who will carry her memory in their hearts.
Joyce is reunited in spirit with her loved ones who have passed before her, including her parents, Helen Mitchell Bullard and William Coy Bullard, her devoted husband of 62 years, Walter E. Russell, and her son, Walter T. Russell.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on November 4, 2025, starting at 9:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 AM, both held at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, OH 45424. A graveside service will follow at Dayton National Cemetery at 1:00 PM, where Joyce will be laid to rest with her husband.
Joyce Ann Russell's life reminds us all of the power of love, faith, and service. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who were lucky enough to know her.
