Joyce Ann "Ann" Saugstad

On March 31, 2025, Joyce Ann Saugstad (Ann), nee Dickson, passed away peacefully. To know Ann was to love her. She was kind, thoughtful, generous, smart and fun to be around and will be missed by many, especially her family.
Ann was born May 28, 1934 in Pensacola, FL to Davis Grey and Hilda Dickson. She graduated from Tate High School on May 28, 1952. Her favorite classes were in science and her favorite activity was playing drums in her high school marching band. After high school graduation Ann attended Mather School of Nursing in New Orleans, LA and was student of the month in June, 1955.
On April 16, 1955 Ann married Lt. (j.g.) Dennis Saugstad at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pensacola. After the honeymoon Ann resumed nursing school studies while her husband was stationed at Jacksonville Naval Air Station.
In 1956 Ann and Dennis moved to Kansas City, MO when Dennis was hired as a pilot with TWA. Their family grew to include 3 daughters. In 1969 the family of 5, along with their Siamese cat, moved to Saudi Arabia for 2 years. Son, Lee, was born in Beirut, Lebanon during that time.
In 1972 the family of 6 moved to rural Platte County, near Weston, MO, where they made many friends and became involved in community activities. Ann especially enjoyed the years she spent as a volunteer at the Weston Historical Museum and acted as Director for a number of years. Her greatest interests at the museum were documenting, displaying and preserving historic items.
Ann and Dennis were also involved at St. John's Lutheran Church in Farley, MO for decades. Ann had many friends there and helped coordinate a needlepoint group that made kneelers still used by the church today.
Ann is survived by her 4 children: Marlys Hougland (Karl), Janis Saugstad Morris (Alec), Carla Ohlhausen (Bret), and Dennis Leland Saugstad Jr. (Nancy) and 7 grandchildren: Ricky Hougland, Kyle Robbins, Jacob Ohlhausen, Gretchen Ganim, Reid Saugstad, Riley Saugstad and Drew Saugstad, and 2 great grandchildren: Parker Robbins and Eden Ohlhausen.
Funeral services will be April 14, 2025 with visitation at 9:30 and the service at 10:30. Ann requests donations to St. John's Lutheran Church in lieu of flowers.
