Joyce Sheffield Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bach-Yager Funeral Chapel - Columbia on Apr. 15, 2025.
Joyce Ann Sheffield, 90, of Hallsville, peacefully passed away on the morning of April 14, 2025, after a brief illness.
Joyce was born on November 19, 1934, to the late Robert and Idora (Lowrey) Davis in Steele, Missouri. The family moved to St. Louis, MO in the 1940's. Joyce and her siblings grew up spending their summers in the Missouri boot heel with their grandparents who farmed. After graduating from St. Louis Central High School in 1952, Joyce met and married Oliver Wayne Sheffield on November 22, 1953. They settled in Hannibal, MO and moved to Hallsville, MO in 1970, where they finished raising their family of five children. Joyce and Oliver were married 62 years before Oliver preceded her in death on January 29, 2016.
Joyce was a homemaker and was always home before her children left for school and was there for them when they returned home. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed for others to create income for her large family. She also sold Avon and enjoyed the socialization with friends and neighbors it created. After her youngest child entered high school, she secured a full-time position with the Department of Infectious Diseases in the University of Missouri School of Medicine and worked as that office's clerical support staff. Joyce loved this job and worked about ten years before retiring.
She was a member of Red Top Christian Church in Hallsville. Joyce served on the church's Outreach Committee and loved helping the community and other recipients of this committee's important purpose. This brought her great joy. She was a beloved member of Red Top's congregation and made many dear friends there. Joyce's favorite hymn was "It Is Well With My Soul".
Joyce is survived by four children, Brian Sheffield, Angela (Tim) Waller, Libby (Billy) Schultz and Jon Sheffield (Steve Dopp); five grandchildren, Brent (Jessica) Schultz, Kayla (Matthew) Fadler, Brittany Waller (Andrew Lynch), Zachary Waller (Kathy Trabue) and Gabe Sheffield; and five great grandchildren, Brenleigh, Parker, Maclain, Myla and Maddox. Joyce is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Joy Schrader in 2020; three siblings, Helen Hunt, Betty Londe, and Robert "Wayne" Davis and two grandsons in infancy.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 21, 2025, at Bach-Yager Funeral Chapel, Columbia. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Red Top Christian Church, Hallsville with Pastor Shelia Colley officiating. Burial will follow the service at Red Top Church Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to Caring Hearts and Hands of Columbia, 1307 W. Broadway, Columbia, MO 65203 or Red Top Christian Church, 14355 North Route U, Hallsville, MO 65255.
