Joyce Rae "Russell" Sledge

Joyce Rae Sledge (Russell), 86, left her earthly home on April 5, 2025, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, IA.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., prior to the funeral. Burial will be at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.

Joyce was born December 10, 1938, to D. Morris and Erma Sannon in Mitchellville, IA, and was a member of the Christian Church. She worked in pensions until her retirement.

She loved camping, reading, fishing, and spending time with her family.

Joyce is survived by her three sons, Robert (Michele) Sledge of Ankeny, IA, Roger (Chris) Sledge of Ankeny, IA, and Randy Sledge of Colorado; four daughters, Mary Kernes of Des Moines, IA, Linda Trisler of Des Moines, IA, Sarah Taylor of Houston, MS, and Grace (Jerry) Chittenden of Indianola, IA; brother, John (Annette) Sannon of Grimes, IA; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband the father of her boys, Kenneth Sledge; husband, Charles Russell; brother, Larry; sister, Joan; and her parents, D. Morris and Erma.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, IA.
