Joyce Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 6, 2025.
Following a decade-long battle with cancer, Joyce Beauchamp Smith, age 71, of Harbeson, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE. Joyce was born July 21, 1954, in Lewes, DE, daughter of the late William R. and Joyce (Martin) Beauchamp. Joyce was a woman of faith who loved the Lord and cherished her family and friends. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She treasured the time she spent with them, taking them on adventures and making memories. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends and traveling. She grew up as a military child, traveling the world with her family. After her father's retirement from the military, the family returned to Delaware. Following her graduation from Bossier High School in 1972, Joyce took college courses at Louisiana Baptist Christian College before joining her family in Delaware. For two years, Joyce was a kindergarten and 1st grade teacher at Lewes Christian Academy. She also worked alongside her parents managing the family-owned Anglers Motel in Lewes for many years, until the business was sold. Following the sale of the motel, she worked at Stockley Center until retirement. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her sisters, Gwendolyn Beauchamp and Betty Jo Brittingham. She is survived by her daughter, Rachel (Patrick) Barragan; her grandchildren, Ryan Skinner, Katelyn (Travis) Hutchinson, and Aubrey Barragan; and great-granddaughter, Chloe Hutchinson, as well as her brother, William (Laurie) Beauchamp; three nieces; and two nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Joyce's memory to Delaware Hospice or Hope Lodge in Jacksonville, Florida. Services took place privately, in accordance with the family's wishes. Please sign the virtual guestbook located on the tribute page.
