Joyce Toner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 7, 2025.
Joyce Toner was born in Spokane Washington on September 1, 1932. She began her life living with her mother and siblings. Her earliest years were harsh, but at age 6, she went to live in an orphanage where she was well cared for and recalls being blissfully happy. Nearly a year later she went to live with a couple we all know as grandma and grandpa Bartlett. She lived on the dairy farm until she was 18 years old and always shared how thankful she was for the immense joy she experienced living on the farm with grandma and grandpa Bartlett and working beside them.

Joyce was beautiful! At 5'1" with short brown curly hair and an eye catching smile she easily caught the attention of Larry Toner's eye when their paths crossed at the Deer Park County fair in 1949. On September 23, 1950 they were married. A year later they were blessed with their daughter Kathie followed by their two sons Kenny and Randy. From her union of marriage and her three children, Joyce was blessed to have 9 grandchildren and a total of 23 great grandchildren.

Joyce was tiny from head to toe, she had a soft voice and a comforting presence. She was always kind and dedicated to serving others. These defining characteristics are what made her loved by all who knew her.

Joyce had a strong work ethic due to her experiences growing up on the dairy farm. She always loved to work even as a young child and continued to enjoy working in her yard and home until her very last days. She kept a spotless home, made the best beef jerky and date cookies and she made sure everyone who entered her home had food and drinks to their hearts content.

Joyce was adorable and precious with a smile that we will never forget. Thank you for your life grandma. Thank you for your gentle disposition. Thank you for your devotion and love for all of us. Thank you for all of the work you did in our behalf. We love you and miss you.

I will always have a spot in my heart for Joyce. She was one of the first persons I met when I came to Washinton in July, 1969. We always went to the laundromat at Deer Park to do our laundry. She was an avid reader and the bookmobile would come to Reflection Lake. Joyce would get her stack of books and I would get mine and we would read them all and trade them so both stacks of books were read by each of us. There are so many memories that I have of this very special lady. She was truly one of a kind. My condolences to the entire family.
