Joyce Whitmore Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Best Funeral Services Phoenix on Jul. 28, 2025.
Joyce Whitmore, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on July 15, 2025 at the age of 82. She was born in rural West Virginia, and lived across the tri-state area as a child as her father moved their family often following work as a sharecropper and coal miner.

Through these experiences, Joyce yearned to see more of the outside world and moved to California in her early 20's. Joyce met her future husband Jack in San Francisco in the 1960's and eventually the two made a home in Phoenix, Arizona where they built a life for themselves and their children based on love and faith.

After the birth of her second child, Joyce attended ASU where she earned a Nursing degree and built a successful career at the Arizona State Hospital as a Psychatric Nurse. She had a lifelong passion of caring for others and was able to nurture this interest giving back to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Joyce was also passionate about her family and could always be counted on to give love and support to those she treasured most dearly. She acted as a caregiver for both her sister and her father in their final days. Joyce also maintained lifelong friends- some of whom she met in her 20's and continued their friendships until her final days.

Joyce had a gift for making people feel seen, appreciated, and loved. Her warmth, humor, love, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Joyce's faith was deeply held and she knew in her heart of hearts that she would be reunited with Jack in the hereafter.

Joyce is survived by her children Jason and Julie, one sister, and many dear friends.

Joyce's memory will live on in the hearts of those she loved and inspired.
